Do you want the look and quality of custom cabinets but don’t want to pay the price? Well have I got a solution for you! This was my dilemma as well… I really wanted high quality, good looking cabinets BUT I did not want to pay the high price tag of going custom. SO… I found the best company out of Denver who offers just this!! They are fabulous you guys!!! For my kids vanities and downstairs kitchenette I used a local company called Home Star based out of Denver. I LOVED THEM!!!! I worked with a designer named Brian who came and did a field measure and designed the cabinets on the spot! These cabinets are high quality stock cabinets made right here in Denver!!! I LOVE that I can support local businesses while getting high quality and affordable prices! They have several door fronts to choose from ranging in price as well. They are a little limited on colors and styles but that is why they are so affordable. These cabinets are stock cabinets that are pre made here locally and ready to install. This is one of the main reasons how I was able to save a lot of money with them. The installers were efficient and qualified and they did a great job. The whole process was a breeze and I feel with this company you get the best of both worlds. You have the direct designer come do a field measure and make the pre made cabinets fit best in the space AND you are saving money by choosing from local in stock cabinets. I really couldn’t be happier.. I really feel I scored on these cabinets and this place is such a hidden gem!!

Who doesn’t love the look and style of a barn door?! Well… I know I certainly LOVE the look of them! I have 7 sliding barn doors in my home (here are a few pictured below) and they are all just beautiful in their own unique way. Barn doors can add so much interest, character and function to a space when done properly. I’m no expert but I thought I would share my experience with my doors so far and give some tips on how to get the most out of you barn door.

1. Structural capability:

Barn doors can be a beautiful alternative to the traditional hinged door. While they are loved for saving room space and do not require a specific radius for opening and closing, they do take up significant wall space (both open and closed). So, it’s important to plan out and design your door installation properly.  Most current homes have adequate framing but  some of the older homes or additions may not. It’s very important to know the structure of your home and if it’s framed adequately underneath to hold the weight of the doors.  Unless you have a set of plans for your home, there is no way to know if your frame is built strong enough to endure the wear and use of a barn door (especially a full sized heavy door). You may look at barn doors and say to yourself “oh they look so beautiful!” Yes, they do, but keep in mind the average sized (8ft x 4ft double sided sandwiched slabs of solid wood ARE HEAVY!!) I’m talking 25 up to 100 pounds heavy! So the structual integrity of your home may seem a little ridiculous but it is VERY important especially for long term use.

A happy medium. How many times have we all heard “I want a princess room? Or I want a super Hero Room!” Luckily, my Josie girl is not into princesses 🙂 But she is into big bold, bright colors. And my oldest is really into football. When it comes to designing rooms, I try and stay away from themes and go with something more classic that will last a long time. I have however, really bend the rules when it comes to my kids rooms with this! Because I know this is what they love and this will make them happy. So, we come to a happy medium working in classic colors or design WHILE staying true to what they love. Working with your child and incorporating their own style into their space while maintaining a nice look, is difficult. I try to make the process fun and something we can work on together. Working in your child’s favorite color is a sure way to make certain they will love the space! Doing simple art projects, spray painting decor, vinyl decals and painting walls together are all fun and easy ways to involve your child in the design process of their space. Not only will these projects help them be involved but they are also great ways to develop creativity! I juts love when my children come up with their own design ideas to incorporate and make the room feel more like theirs! Hopefully this helps!
